Sonic Symphony - Free downloadable album

This is the first in a series of tributes I plan on doing through my music project Vernian Process. Future installments will include tributes to the work of Nobuo Uematsu, Koji Kondo, and more. But I decided for my first volume, I would pay tribute to one of my favorite games of all time. I am in my thirties and grew up playing all of the 16-bit Sonic titles as a kid. I later had the great pleasure to work for SEGA in the early 2000's and worked on 4 different Sonic titles in my time there. I've always loved the music in the 16-bit games, but after awhile I got sick of the low quality of the old Genesis sound card recordings. So I decided to redo all of the old tracks in my own style. I mainly started this project just for my own listening pleasure, but I quickly decided to share it with other Sonic fans. So without further adieu, I present to you...
Sonic Symphony

Special Thanks to: http://www.vgmusic.com for making these midi's available for me to work with. Also thanks to: Monster Iestyn, John Weeks, Sword-Bolt, King Meteor, and Zenkusa for transcribing the original midi tracks that I used in making this album.

I was given to understand that the Japanese version of the first Sonic had a different soundtrack. Any truth to that that you know of?

No that is Sonic CD. The North American version had different music than the Euro/Japanese one.

The last four tracks on this album are covers of Sonic CD songs from the Japanese version. =)

If you were d-loading your d-load may have failed. I needed to fix the zip file. Should be all good now though =)

Thanks =) Yeah I'm really happy with how all of these turned out. Especially the last 4, I had to make those full length tracks, because they were too good to be stuck at 2 and a half minutes like the others.

And yet another one of your albums makes it onto my mp3 player. Great work as ever! Brings back memories does this. There's some real classic game tracks from the 80's that I'd love to see remade and updated. Any plans to give Shadow of the Beast's music the same Vernian Process treatment? :)

Thanks =)

I hadn't really thought about Shadow of the Beast. I'll have to go play it on my emulator and see.

Oh, nice surprise for my morning! (er, afternoon, I was up late). Thank you!

We still need to talk about having an event in New Babbage. Been a hellaciously busy weekend, but I will grab you soon, I promise!

Yes yes,

I am very interested in that. Have whoever puts that together drop me a line at josh@post-punk.com and we can get the ball rolling.

you and i seem to have similar ideas in certain cover song ideas. i've always intended on doing some sonic stuff, definitely interested to hear your versions. perhaps i should send you some j.s. bach stuff i did a few years ago. course, i didn't leave it anywhere near exactly how it was written originally ^+^
